Serenity Residential Services · Medicine Hat, Alberta
Group homes in Medicine Hat, with care around the clock.
Serenity Residential Services — a Serenity Care Services Inc. company — offers 24-hour supported living in small, family-style group homes in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where trained staff are on site day and night, so every resident is safe, supported, and truly at home.
- Staff awake & on site 24/7
- Private bedrooms
- All ages & abilities welcome
Not a facility. A home — with the support of a full care team.
Some people need more than visiting care can give. Our Medicine Hat group homes bring the care to where life happens: comfortable houses in quiet Medicine Hat neighbourhoods, each shared with a small group of housemates, where support is simply part of everyday life.
Every resident has their own private bedroom, a personalized care plan, and staff who know them well — their routines, their preferences, their people. Families stay closely involved, and because our team is here around the clock, help is never a phone call away. It's already in the house.
Serenity Residential Services Inc is a subsidiary of Serenity Care Services Inc — the same locally owned Serenity team Medicine Hat families already know for home care. One trusted name stands behind both: care in your own home when that works, and a staffed home of ours when it doesn't.
Care around the clock — here's what that actually looks like
"24-hour care" shouldn't be a promise on a brochure. This is a typical day in our homes, from the first good morning to the overnight hours — with trained staff awake and on site the whole way through.
-
5–8 AM
Wake-up & morning care
Unhurried starts — help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and morning medication, then coffee and breakfast together.
-
8–11 AM
Out into the day
Day programs, work and volunteer placements, appointments, errands, and walks — with transportation and staff support arranged.
-
11 AM–2 PM
Lunch & midday check-ins
A home-cooked lunch, midday medications, and a natural pause in the day — staff check in on everyone's health and mood.
-
2–5 PM
Activities & life skills
Gardening, baking, music, fitness, crafts — and coaching in cooking, laundry, budgeting, and other everyday skills.
-
5–9 PM
Supper & family time
A shared evening meal, family calls and visits, games and television in the living room, and help winding down.
-
9 PM–12 AM
Settling in for the night
Evening personal care and medications, rooms made comfortable, doors checked — our homes quiet down, staffed and secure.
-
12–5 AM
Awake overnight staff
Overnight staff stay awake — regular comfort checks, help with toileting or repositioning, and a calm, immediate response if anyone needs anything.
Everything daily life needs, under one roof
One placement covers the full picture — home, care, meals, and daily support — all coordinated by the same Serenity team, around the clock.
24-hour staffing
Trained support staff on site day and night — awake overnight — for supervision, safety, and help the moment it's needed.
Personal care
Respectful help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility — as much or as little support as each person wants.
Medication support
Medications stored securely and given on schedule by trained staff, with records kept and any changes flagged to family and prescribers.
Home-cooked meals
Three balanced meals a day plus snacks, planned with residents, mindful of allergies, cultural preferences, and special diets.
Housekeeping & laundry
A clean, well-kept home and fresh laundry handled by staff — with residents welcome to help with the chores they enjoy.
Life skills & independence
Patient coaching in cooking, cleaning, money skills, transit, and routines — building confidence and independence at each person's pace.

Rides and accompaniment to medical, dental, and therapy appointments, shopping, and family events.
Health monitoring & coordination
Daily well-being checks, care notes after every shift, and coordination with each resident's own doctors and health team, and their family — concerns caught early, not late.
Family connection
Regular updates to family and guardians, an open door for visits, and a care team that calls before small things become big ones.
Comfortable houses on quiet streets
Each of our homes is a real house in a residential Medicine Hat neighbourhood — close to parks, shops, transit, and the people and places residents already know.
Private bedrooms
Your own room, your own things. Residents personalize their space with their furniture, photos, and belongings — and lock up when they want privacy.
Accessible throughout
Main-floor living, an accessible entrance ramp, wide doorways, and bathroom safety features — designed for wheelchairs, walkers, and changing mobility.
Garden & outdoor space
A fenced yard and garden beds for fresh air, barbecues, gardening, and quiet mornings outside.
Safety, built in
Secure medication storage, fire safety systems, nightly checks, and documented care after every shift — the quiet systems that let a home feel relaxed.
A small household
A small group of housemates — never a ward, never a crowd. Everyone is known by name, by routine, and by what matters to them.
Family always welcome
Visits, calls, and shared celebrations are part of life here. Family is on the care team, not outside it.
For people who need a supported place to call home
Serenity cares for people of all ages — and our group homes are no different. If daily life has become too much to manage alone, but a facility isn't the answer, this is.
Adults with developmental disabilities
Long-term supported living for adults who do best with structure, routine, and staff who know them well.
Seniors who need 24-hour support
For older adults whose care needs have grown beyond what support at home can give — including support with dementia, mobility, and overnight safety.
People with physical disabilities & complex needs
Accessible living with hands-on daily support, medication management, and coordination with the health team already involved in their care.
Respite & transitional stays
Short stays when a family caregiver needs a break, after a hospital discharge, or as a gentle first step toward longer-term living.
How a placement begins
Talk & tour
Call us or book a tour. Meet the staff, see our homes, and talk honestly about needs, routines, and what a good day looks like.
Care assessment
We complete a full assessment and build a personalized care plan with the resident, family, and any case managers involved.
Costs & paperwork
We go over the costs together, help you look into any funding supports you may already qualify for, and handle the placement paperwork with you.
Settle in
Move in at a comfortable pace, with visits first if that helps. The same familiar staff welcome your loved one from day one.
What families usually ask us
Yes. Overnight staff are awake on shift — not sleeping staff on call. They do regular comfort and safety checks through the night and respond right away if a resident needs help, from toileting and repositioning to a 3 a.m. worry that just needs a familiar face.
A group home is a real house in a regular neighbourhood, shared by a small group of housemates — not a ward or an institution. Residents have their own private bedrooms, eat home-cooked meals at a shared table, and are supported by staff who know them personally, around the clock. It feels like home because it is one.
Absolutely — this is their home. Family and friends are welcome to visit, residents join family outings and celebrations, and staff support day programs, work, appointments, and community activities. We simply coordinate together so support and medications stay on track.
Pricing depends on the level of care each resident needs. Some residents pay privately, and some use Alberta funding supports they already qualify for — such as PDD funding or AISH benefits. Call us and we'll walk through the options honestly, with no pressure and no obligation.
Yes, when a room is available — for family caregiver relief, recovery after a hospital stay, or a trial stay before a longer placement. The same 24-hour care applies, whether someone stays a week or makes it home.
Our staff document care after every shift, and families and guardians receive regular updates. You're welcome to call or visit any time — and if anything changes with your loved one's health or care plan, you'll hear it from us early, not after the fact.
